Candidates Set For May 16 School Board Elections

School board elections will take place May 16 across the county, accompanying the annual school budget votes.

In Mahopac, three seats on the board of education are up for grabs. Candidates include incumbents Ben DiLullo and Tanner McCracken, former board member Michael Mongon, and Marsha Waldman.

In Carmel, there are two seats on the ballot. Candidates include Carmela Atria, Jordi Douglas and James Wise. Incumbents Debra Heitman-Cayea and Matthew Morello are not seeking re-election.

In Brewster there are also two seats to be filled. Candidates include incumbent Kerry Cunningham, as well as Kristin Cacal, Melissa Stasi Finateri and Carrie Hernandez. Incumbent Francine Santos is not seeking re-election.

At the Haldane Central School District in Cold Spring, school board member Margaret Clements is running unopposed.

There is also only one seat up for grabs in Putnam Valley, where incumbent Joseph Ferraro is being challenged by Crystal Hernandez.

At the Garrison Union Free School District, three candidates are running unopposed for three seats on the board: incumbent Jocelyn Apicello and newcomers Dan Jasnow and Jennifer Harriton-Wilson. Incumbent Matthew Speiser is not seeking re-election, and Madeline Julian resigned at the end of March. Whomever receives the fewest number of votes will assume Julian’s unexpired term for one year.

The school board elections and school budget votes take place Tuesday, May 16 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at each district.
