Thousands Rally for ‘No Kings’ in Brewster
A reported 4,000 people attended the No Kings Day rally Oct. 18 at Wells Park in Brewster, to demonstrate against what organizers describe as the authoritarian policies of President Donald Trump and corruption in his administration. County to Increase Trailway Security

Kent Overrides Tax Cap For 2026
By Holly Crocco The Kent Town Board on Oct. 21 passed a resolution to override the state-mandated 2 percent property tax cap for 2026, as it continues to whittle down a tentative $19.2 million spending plan. According to Director of Finance Cristina Cahill, after deducting about $4.2 million in revenue, the tax levy comes out to about $15 million – up from the $13.4 million tax levy for 2025. “Why such a big increase, is the typical costs,” she explained at the board meeting.

Man Arrested After Barricading Himself
A man was arrested last week after causing a scare in Patterson. According to Putnam County Acting Sherrif Brian Hess, shortly after 5 p.m. Oct. 16, deputies were called to an incident involving a male subject dressed in full camouflage who allegedly menaced a neighbor with what appeared to be a firearm.
