Arrest Made in Graffiti Case at CHS

A 16-year-old Carmel High School student has been implicated in regards to a hate crime that occurred last month at the school.

According to Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville, on Sept. 20, students and staff discovered a swastika and the words “Adolf Hitler” scratched into the surface of the tennis courts at the high school, and alerted the sheriff’s department.

An investigation was initiated, which included interviews of students and staff and a review of video footage. A student at the school – a juvenile – was identified as the suspect and turned themselves in.

That individual was charged with first-degree aggravated harassment, a felony, and issued an appearance ticket for Putnam County Family Court.
