The Brewster Bruins 10U Football Team was recently recognized by the Southeast Town Board for another undefeated season – making three consecutive years that the team has not had a loss.
“What I’ve been told about this team from more than one person is that they play together as a team,” said Town Supervisor Nick Durante at the Dec. 4 town board meeting. “It doesn’t matter if they were a starter or a backup – everyone cheers for everyone.”
There was even a handful of first-year players who exceeded all expectations.
“The coaches are very excited to see how you guys grow and what the future holds for you, so keep it up,” said Durante.
The team is led by Head Coach John Christmann, as well as many assistant coaches, and is supported by all the team parents.
During the recent meeting, Durante read a statement from one of the coaches:
“What truly sets them apart – what becomes obvious every single Sunday – is they play for each other. They lift each other up. They protect each other. They defend each other. They celebrate each other. There is a selflessness in the way that each player takes to the field – something you can’t teach in a day, a week, or even a season. It comes from long, hot summer practices, and late weeknight sessions after homework.
“Great accomplishments don’t happen overnight,” but through commitment, hard work, and choosing to show up again and again, Durante continued to read. “They are living proof.”
For the past three years, the Brewster Bruins 10U Football Team has not only been tough to beat, but impossible to beat.
“Three years, three seasons, and not a single loss,” said the supervisor. “You guys are putting Brewster back on the football map. Teams and towns are going to come after you, and sometimes it’s tougher to be on the top. They’re going to be looking for you. Stay together as a team, stay coachable, and keep having fun defeating these other towns.”
Team Mom Jenn Neauman was also recognized for the amount of time and effort she has put into supporting the coaches and the team.
“It goes without saying she is a big part of the success this team has had and hopefully it continues to have,” said Durante.
