For the first time in its 25-year history, the Brewster Theater Company will stage a production of the timeless musical “Fiddler on the Roof.”
The show will be presented on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from July 18 through 27, at 7:30; and Sundays, July 21 and 28, at 2 p.m. Performances will take place at Theater at Drew Methodist Church, 28 Gleneida Ave., Carmel.
Tickets are available at www.brewstertheater.org and at the door, although reservations are recommended.
“Fiddler on the Roof” is being directed by Judy Brewster and conducted by Nate Brewster, both of Southeast. Joy Giuseffi of Patterson is the vocal director, Stacey Cohen of Danbury is the producer, and Jean Mazzilli of Stormville is the stage manager.
The show is choreographed by C.J. Umbrino of Carmel, with set design by Christopher Gladysz of Brewster.
“We all know the stunning ‘Sabbath Prayer’ and ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ as classics that transcend musical theater,” said Director Brewster. “But what brought me to want to direct this show was its universal themes of tradition, family, love, acceptance and change – all of which affect our lives every day. We are all one humanity, steeped in our traditions, our family, and our love for one another.”
The large ensemble production includes performers and crew from Putnam, Westchester, Dutchess and Rockland counties, as well as Connecticut.
“Fiddler on the Roof” is based on the book by Joseph Stein, with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. It is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
The Brewster Theater Company is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community theater, entertaining audiences and bringing artists together in Putnam County and its surrounding areas since 2000.
