Cleary to Coach Brewster Football

BREWSTER – Ryan Cleary didn’t have to go too far for his new job at Brewster High School. As a matter of fact, he probably chewed some of the same turf.

The boys’ lacrosse coach in the spring is now the football coach in the fall. In fact, he will officially preside over his first practice in less than a month.

“The transition has been smooth, although balancing off-field administration – like scheduling, 2027 recruiting, and youth program alignment – has been my main focus,” he said. “Thankfully, the support around Brewster football has been outstanding.”

And support is what he needs right now. Fortunately, he is getting it from his players, who are buying in to his philosophies.

It’s called making a commitment.

“Our players are bringing great energy, showing up at 7 a.m. three days a week for strength and conditioning,” said Cleary. “We’re also building a ‘one program’ alignment by hosting an August youth camp run by our varsity players and staff.”

It’s not just the players.

“Supported by a passionate coaching staff and mentors from previous Brewster tenures, I’m really happy with our progress,” he said. “We’ll know more about our on-field identity once full pads go on Aug. 22, but the foundation is looking strong.”
