Debut of Eastern Putnam Relay for Life a Success!

The newly merged Relay For Life of Eastern Putnam (Brewster and Patterson) held its inaugural event June 8 at Brewster High School, where teams, survivors and other advocates joined together to support the mission of the American Cancer Society. Participants walked a dino lap for childhood cancer, and other mission laps in support of programs like Road to Recovery and Hope Lodge. There was also a luminary event in the evening.

More than $108,000 has been raised by this event in support of the American Cancer Society’s quest to find a cure for cancer. Donations may still be made at relayforlife.org/EasternPutnamNY.

Seventy-five survivors were served a complimentary meal donated by Aversano’s Restaurant & Pizza of Brewster, in memory of the owners’ mother, Adeline. A kids’ tent offered crafts, face-painting and other activities. There was also a silent auction, and plenty of other entertainment throughout the day. Brewster High School’s “Mr. Brewster” was even present to cheer on the walkers.
