A driver was killed in a car versus tractor-trailer accident Jan. 11 on Route 6 in Brewster.

According to the Brewster Fire Department, just before 7 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer on Route 6 in the area of Dingle Ridge Road. Within 5 minutes, Chief Michael Miller arrived on the scene and confirmed that a passenger car had under-ridden a tractor-trailer and was actively on fire.

Miller immediately requested the assistance of the Danbury Fire Department, due to the location of the incident being close to the Connecticut border. Danbury firefighters arrived minutes later and began to extinguish the flames coming from both engulfed vehicles.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was uninjured.

It was later determined that the truck carrying food products was pulling out of Croton Egg Farm when the collision took place.
