It’s never too early to start thinking about the next high school athletic season.
Because we can guarantee you the players and coaches are thinking about it.
And while the 2026-27 school year for Putnam County begins traditionally around Labor Day, Sept. 7, most high schools will already have hit the field or court by then. Yes, that’s only seven weeks from now – it’s getting earlier and earlier each year.
In the fall, the Carmel High School girls’ tennis program has the honor of kicking things off. The Rams will host Somers on Monday, Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m.
A day later, Tuesday, Sept. 1, Brewster travels to Pawling for a volleyball match against the Tigers. It is scheduled for a 6:15 p.m. start.
Wednesday, Sept. 2 is a big day, as Mahopac, Putnam Valley, and Haldane are all in action. Mahopac field hockey is home to John Jay-East Fishkill at 11 a.m., Putnam Valley field hockey hosts Section 1 power Lakeland on the same day at 4:30 p.m., and Haldane girls tennis’ is home to Arlington at 5 p.m.
