One person was killed June 25 in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate-84 in Kent.

According to the New York State Police, at about 1:45 p.m., a serious crash on I-84 westbound near mile marker 61.4 was reported.

Preliminary investigation determined that a 2024 Ram truck, operated by Nodir Umarov, 36, of Brooklyn, was traveling in the right lane behind a 2017 Peterbilt tractor-trailer operated by Dragan Pelevic, 34, of St. Petersburg, Fla., which began to slow for traffic as it approached a work zone.

Umarov failed to stop and struck the rear of the trailer. As a result of the impact, the trailer was pushed forward and struck a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek operated by Matthew Ames, 42, of Sandy Hook, Conn.

The Ram also collided with a 2015 Nissan Altima operated by Jeffrey Armstrong, 68, of Toccoa, Ga.

Umarov sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to NYSP. The other operators reported no injuries.

The interstate was closed until about 8:20 p.m., while traffic was diverted off the highway at Route 311.
