It’s time for the girls to take center stage… Or center circle, as the case may be.
The Section 1 seeds for high school girls’ lacrosse were announced last week and play got under way. Here are the local teams to keep an eye on:
In Class B, Brewster drew the fourth seed and is scheduled to host number five Mahopac on May 26 in a quarterfinal game. That’s also the same day that seventh-seeded Carmel is scheduled to play Fox Lane in the quarterfinal.
And in Class D, Putnam Valley was scheduled to square off with Pawling in a 6-11 first round matchup May 23. Haldane is also in this bracket at number 13, and was slated to play at Blind Brook in an opening round game, also on the 23rd.
Nyack High School will serve as the neutral host for the finals in all classes.
Softball
The Section 1 seedings and brackets for girls’ high school softball are underway.
Class AA was highlighted by number 13 Brewster at number four Carmel in a great local first-round game May 22. Mahopac is also in this bracket and was scheduled to host number 10 Fox Lane, also May 22.
Haldane and Putnam Valley were seeded second and third, respectively, in Class B, and are due to host games May 27.
Championship games in all brackets are scheduled for North Rockland Stadium.
Flag Football
Consider it mixed results.
Both the Brewster High School and Mahopac High School girls’ flag football teams made the semifinals of the Section 1 Class B tournament. Both were scheduled to play May 20.
Mahopac lost to number two Yorktown, 24-0.
The Bears had their game against top-seeded Tappan Zee rained out. The game was rescheduled for Thursday afternoon, and results were not available as of press time.
In Class C, Putnam Valley lost to number one Westlake/Briarcliff in the semis.
