Haldane Football Perks Up

The Haldane High School football team is showing off its versatility on both sides of the ball – and the Blue Devils did it in front of a great crowd during Homecoming.

Haldane whipped Rye Neck, 35-6, and shut out the Panthers in the second half.

“We were able to establish control early and continued to build the lead throughout the contest,” said Coach Ryan McConville.

In actuality, this was never really a game, as the Blue Devils dominated. Heading into last weekend’s game at Irvington, Haldane improved to 3-3.

Alex Gaugler ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns, David Powlis completed six of the seven passes he attempted for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and Cooper Corless caught both touchdown passes on offense and later returned an interception 81 yards for a touchdown.

Despite two of their first three games ending in forfeits – including one win and one loss – the Blue Devils seem to be peaking.

Football Roundup

CARMEL – The Carmel High School football team is conjuring up memories of its 2021 state championship. The Rams were consistently good back then, and they are again. This time it was a 35-21 win over Peekskill.

First-year Coach Alex Beauchesne is working wonders with a program that won only twice in the previous two seasons. And the former Carmel star himself is only 24 years old – but he has been making all the right moves.

In this game, Michael Karoytakis only touched the ball twice, but both were touchdowns and he ran for 91 yards. That will certainly boost the average yards per gain. And Karoytakis had a kick return for 68 yards.

Landon Beauchesne and Mattias Kershaw both ran for scores.

Mahopac 20, Yorktown 17 – The Wolf Pac overcame 191 yards in total offense by Tyler Caricati to post their second win of the season.

Clarkstown South 29, Brewster 28 (OT) – This was truly a heartbreaker for the Bears. Brewster gave up a touchdown with 13 seconds left in regulation that forced overtime. The Bears scored first in OT to lead by seven but Clarkstown South scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion that won it.

Putnam Valley 19, Walter Panas 0 – Further information on the game was unavailable.
