BREWSTER – Some friendly advice: don’t get involved in a tight game with the Brewster High School boys’ soccer team. They’re stingy.
Easier said than done, of course.
The Bears won a pair of one-goal games last week. Even better, they allowed just one goal combined in both games.
Brewster beat John Jay-Cross River, 2-1, as Aiden Monge and Ben Unson each scored. Earlier in the week, the Bears registered a shutout victory over Arlington B, 1-0. Ashwin Sookram had the only goal of the game.
Mahopac 4, Peekskill 0 – Hat trick! Chris Flanagan scored three goals to lead the Wolf Pac to victory. Connor Sterbens needed to make just four saves for the clean sheet.
Mahopac 5, Ketcham 1 – Nick Portanova had two goals in the win.
Girls’ Soccer
CARMEL – In a showdown between two Putnam schools, it was the Rams who came out on top. To say it was defense-oriented is an understatement.
Carmel beat Brewster, 1-0. Ava Connors scored the only goal of the game.
Mahopac 7, Fox Lane 1 – Talk about making an entrance. Sophie McLoughlin tallied the first three goals of her varsity career. She also had an assist, meaning she was part of four of her team’s goals. Teammate Valentina Ivezaj scored twice.
Walter Panas 4, Brewster 1 – Olivia Saccomanno had the lone goal for the Bears.
Arlington 5, Carmel 0 – Ireland Murphy and Nicole Petrillo combined for the shutout. Stephanie Lopez scored two of the goals for the Admirals.
Girls’ Volleyball
PUTNAM VALLEY – The Putnam Valley High School girls’ volleyball team sure was battle-tested last week.
The Tigers had three matches and won two of them. That included a nail-biting 3-2 decision over Hastings. Scores were 26-28, 19-25, 25-21, 27-25, and 15-13.
Natalie Boyer had a whopping 31 assists and teammate Makayla Glenn hit on 19 kills for PV.
Earlier in the week, the Tigers lost to Ketcham but shut out Brewster.
Brewster 3, Peekskill 0 – The Bears walked away with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 league victory.
Carmel 3, Peekskill 0 – Avery Caporale recorded 18 assists in the 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 win over the Red Devils.
Haldane 3, Peekskill 1 – The Blue Devils came from behind for the 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 win. Haldane controlled the final three games with a bevy of service winners.
