Football {subhead}

MAHOPAC – The Mahopac High School football team lost a tough one when Minisink Valley kicked a winning field goal as time expired for an 18-15 victory in a non-league game. It was the season opener for both teams.

The Warriors are from Orange County in Slate Hill and compete in Section 9.

Although the Wolf Pac lost the game, it just might have introduced a new standout on the local scene.

Mahopac quarterback Ethan Dedvukaj completed 11 of 13 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Both scores were to Ryan LaRue.

James I. O'Neill, 40; Haldane, 0 – The Blue Devils just couldn’t get anything going in this non-league season opener for both schools. JIO hosted the game on its campus in Highland Falls in Orange County, which is just a stone’s throw from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Soccer {subhead}

MAHOPAC – It was a strong week for the Mahopac High School boys’ soccer team. The Wolf Pac won a pair of games, including a 5-0 decision over neighboring Brewster.

Nick Portanova and Jack Rothmann each scored twice to lead Mahopac. Manny Mejia tallied the other goal for the winners.

It was a good early season win in a bragging-rights game and it continued to show off the defensive prowess for the Wolf Pac, which earlier shutout Yorktown, 3-0. Portanova scored twice and Mejia also registered a goal.

Carmel, 3; North Salem, 2 – Matthew Castellanos scored the game-winner for the Rams. It was his second goal of the game.

Volleyball {subhead}

CARMEL – The Carmel High School girls’ volleyball team did what it had to do and swept Haldane, 3-0, in a non-league contest. Scores were 25-12, 25-14, and 25-20.

Clara Vuljevic had 12 kills to lead the Rams, and teammates Olivia Albers and Avery Caporale were the facilitators as they combined for 21 assists.
