High School Sports Roundup

CARMEL – The combined Mahopac, Putnam Valley, and Carmel varsity girls’ swim team celebrated senior night with a 92-78 victory over Yorktown/Somers.
The team started off strong, taking first and third in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Keira Troccoli, Elisabeth Knuth, Kira Furfaro, and Chloe Forger captured first place, while Macie Thompson, Laura Svrcek, Liv Brady, and Adelina Loza followed with a third-place finish.
Troccoli jumped right back into the water for the 200 freestyle, where she battled it out for first place and achieved a state qualifying time.
“The girls rose to the occasion,” said Coach Erica Burlenski. “It was a true team effort from start to finish. Every swimmer played a role, and the girls showed tremendous determination, teamwork, and heart – especially when the meet was tied and the pressure was on.”
Cross-Country
Mahopac’s Kira Waring took second place in the girls’ race at the Northern County Championships, held recently at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Milton, with a time of 18:22.4. Mahopac’s Cara O’Halloran took third with 18:46.
The Brewster boys finished second, and Brody McLoughlin finished third overall.
Boys’ Soccer
MAHOPAC – One of the best boys’ high school soccer programs in Section 1 has reached the finals of the Class AA tournament. And it just so happens it was a home game.
Mahopac was scheduled to meet Lakeland on Saturday morning for the title at Mahopac High School, which was predetermined as a site a while ago.
The Wolf Pac is the top seed in the bracket and earlier won quarterfinal and semifinal games, respectively, over Clarkstown North and Fox Lane. The team gave up just one goal in the two combined games.
Mahopac is the top seed; Lakeland is the second seed.
In a Class B first-round game, Putnam Valley was eliminated by Tappan Zee.
