Hudson Valley Represented in World Cup

Tyler Adams is from Dutchess County.

SEATTLE – A lot of fans had a real kinship and rooting interest in the USA men’s soccer team during the World Cup.

Midfielder Tyler Adams of the USA men’s soccer team was born and raised in Wappingers Falls. He is also one of the captains of the team.

Alas, the U.S. was eliminated from the tournament with a 4-1 loss to Belgium in the knockout round of 32.

“Today wasn’t a good day,” Adams said in the postgame press conference. “It’s tough to judge right now, especially after our loss. Overall, there are positives that we’re going to take away from this… Yes, it stings. I don’t like to be eliminated from anything.”

Adams did not play for Roy C. Ketcham High School, but briefly attended the school until his talents took him to Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls Academy. He now plays professionally in the English Premier League – one of the most highly regarded leagues in the world.

Still, he was well-known enough to be recognized by Putnam County soccer fans.

This was his second time representing the U.S. in the World Cup. He is now 27 years old.

He understands that being one of three hosts for this year’s tournament and the expectation for the U.S. team brought in many new fans.

“That was the goal – to obviously inspire people,” he said. “The support is growing in the U.S. I think we saw that the support was unbelievable.”
