Italian American Club of Mahopac Celebrates 96 Years

The Italian American Club of Mahopac’s annual installation of officers and volunteer appreciation dinner was held Jan. 13 at the clubhouse, where the club also celebrated its 96th anniversary.

Club President Giulio Cefaloni highlighted the many events sponsored by the organization, including the Columbus Day wreath presentation, Evening in the Piazza, a homemade wine making and tasting competition, Italian masses, the annual picnic, high school scholarships, Bocce tournaments, the annual Briscola tournament and children’s Christmas party.

The club also supports and participates in other community events, such as Relay for Life, and St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial and Veteran’s Day parades.

This year, the club will bring back its Columbus Day parade, which was on hiatus due to the pandemic.

Guests were entertained with live classical and popular music by Mary Mancini and Mario Tacca, and a raffle was held with proceeds donated to United For the Troops.

Judge Thomas Jacobellis presided over the swearing-in ceremony for President Cefaloni, Vice President Joseph Fierro, Recording Secretary Bonnie Palmiero, Corresponding Secretary Linda Cefaloni, Treasurer Cheryl Comitto, Financial Secretary Josephine Fierro and Sergeant-at-Arms Andrew DeStefano.

The Board of Directors includes Domenic Bauco, Nunzio Recine, Frank Salubro, Alfonso Santaniello, Joseph Zeolla and Vincenzo Fella. Judge Jacobellis was sworn in as IAC club advocate, and Frank Lombardi is legal counsel.
