The rededication of the Clifton Watson Memorial Grove at Kent Elementary School on May 29 was a celebration of an educator who led the school for 27 years.
Carmel School Board Trustee John Curzio II and KES Principal John Fratto spoke about Watson’s love of the environment and how it inspired generations of students.
Watson served as principal of Kent Elementary from 1954 until 1981. After he passed away in 1984, teachers, staff, and the community realized a peaceful grove would be the best way to honor the “gentle giant,” as he was known.
More than 150 people attended the original dedication, including his widow, Susan, and children John, Kathy, and Tommy – most of whom returned for the rededication.
