Mahopac Baseball Coach Reflects on Season

MAHOPAC – Forget the ending.
Think about all that the Mahopac High School basketball team accomplished this year and last year.
It was a success by any measure.
“This team was a special team,” said Head Coach Anthony Nappi. “The group had gone through a lot together – ups and downs. The thing that is most impressive about them is their ability to stick together and pick each other up. They had a bond and selflessness that created memories that will last a lifetime.”
Indeed, it was a special year. It was marred only by the way it ended. Mahopac held a 2-0 lead with two out and none on in the seventh inning of the Section 1 championship game. ’Pac lost.
That didn’t stop the postseason accolades from pouring in, however
The Wolfpack had two players who were honored by Section 1. Catcher Drew Lichtenberger was named the Class AA Player of the Year, and Nick Masciarelli was the Class AA Pitcher of the Year.
That’s practically an unbeatable combo.
But there are other players who also gained recognition: infielders RJ Grabeklis and Vince Cataldo were named to the All-Section team, and outfielder/third baseman Orion Ortiz was All League.
“I am so proud of everything they have accomplished, which included 37 wins, a league title, and back-to-back finals appearances in the past two years,” said Nappi.
