Mahopac Football Loses to Somers, Again

Maybe it’s just dumb luck, or a family curse, but the Mahopac High School football team continues to struggle against Somers.

The Wolf Pac was shellacked by the Tuskers, 35-7, in a league showdown Sept. 18. Somers has won eight in a row against Mahopac.

Somers is coached by Anthony DeMatteo, who took over from his legendary father Tony five years ago. Tony is the second-most winningest coach in New York State history with a combined 360 victories. He won two state championships.

Mahopac Coach Dom DeMatteo is Anthony’s brother and Tony’s son… Thanksgiving must be a hoot in that household.

Tristan Iglesias had three rushing touchdowns for the winners. The Tuskers were up by 28 at the half. They ran for more than 300 yards in the game as a team.

Ethan Dedvukaj threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for Mahopac to prevent the shutout.

Football Roundup

PUTNAM VALLEY – The Putnam Valley High School football team saved face for Putnam County.

Mahopac lost last weekend. Carmel lost. Brewster lost. Haldane won – but not on the field, as the Blue Devils registered a forfeit victory over Croton-Harmon.

But the Putnam Valley Tigers beat Nanuet, 27-21.

PV overcame a game in which the Golden Knights’ Justin Diakite rushed for 127 yards and teammate Luke Peterson threw for 189 yards.

Clarkstown North 27, Carmel 10 – The homecoming crowd at Carmel went home disappointed. All 27 points by the winners were scored after half-time. Alex Londino scored three touchdowns for Clarkstown North.

Carmel quarterback Colin Sullivan was lost to injury early in the second half and did not return. Rams kicker Jonathan Kasberian had a 43-yard field goal – something of a rarity for a high school kicker.

Yorktown 28, Brewster 14 – Tyler Caricati of Yorktown had 117 total yards and scored all four of his team’s touchdowns.
