Mahopac School Bus Monitor Accused of Assaulting Student
A Yorktown woman who serves as a monitor on a school bus for the Mahopac Central School District was arrested last week following investigation into an incident that occurred earlier in the month.
According to Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess, district officials were alerted late in the afternoon Oct. 6 to an incident that occurred Oct. 2. The following day, the district contacted the sheriff’s office.
Video surveillance from the bus was reviewed and it was determined that Magalie Speranza, 65, physically assaulted a 12-year-old student while the bus was in motion, causing minor injuries, said Hess.
Three other students were on the bus at the time.
Speranza was arrested Oct. 8 and charged with third-degree assault and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors; and second-degree harassment, a violation. She was arraigned in Southeast Town Court, where an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
