WHITE PLAINS – Parochial and private schools can still win a Section 1 high school athletic championship, but it will be their own.

The Section 1 athletic council voted 69-4 to prohibit private and parochial schools from competing for traditional sectional titles against public schools. It is still unknown whether those schools will be able to compete for a New York State championship.

Keio, Albertus Magnus, Ursuline, and Leffel School are the private schools that will be affected.

The new rule goes into effect for the 2027-28 school year.
