The Putnam County Firearm Owners Association is the largest Second Amendment organization in the county, bringing together firearm owners, sportsmen, hunters, competitive shooters, collectors, and citizens who believe in protecting the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

The organization was incorporated in October 2014 by Nicholas Castellano, whose vision helped establish a local organization dedicated to education, advocacy, and responsible firearms ownership. More than a decade later, Castellano remains an active member – a testament to his continuing commitment to the association and its mission.

This year, the association has undergone a significant reorganization and restructuring, designed to strengthen the organization and position it for the future. The restructuring includes updates to its governance, leadership, and organizational practices with the goal of promoting transparency, accountability, and long-term stability.

These changes were undertaken to ensure the association remains well-equipped to serve its members, advocate for Second Amendment rights, and continue growing as Putnam County’s leading Second Amendment organization for years to come.

While the association serves Putnam County, its membership extends beyond county lines, including members from all around the Hudson Valley.

Membership is open to anyone who supports the Second Amendment. Whether an individual is an experienced firearm owner, a recreational shooter, a hunter, or simply believes in preserving constitutional freedoms, the association welcomes those who share its commitment to responsible gun ownership and the protection of individual liberties.

Throughout the year, it provides educational programs; guest speakers from the National Rifle Association, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, New York TAC Defense, and elected officials who provide judicial and legislative updates; and opportunities for members to stay informed about issues affecting firearm owners at the local, state, and national levels.

Meetings also provide a forum for members to exchange ideas, ask questions, and engage with elected officials and subject matter experts.

The Putnam County Firearm Owners Association meets the last Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m., at the Paladin Center, 39 Seminary Hill Road, Carmel. Monthly meetings are open to members and guests interested in learning more about the organization and its mission.
