CARMEL – The combined high school swim team of Mahopac/Putnam Valley/Carmel went 1-1 in two meets last week, beating Bronxville-Tuckahoe, 91–79, but falling to John Jay Cross River-North Salem, 89-81.

“The girls came out strong, built momentum throughout the meet, and delivered some impressive performances across the board,” said Coach Erica Burlenski of the win.

The team opened the meet by taking first and third in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Chloe Forger, Elisabeth Knuth, Kira Furfaro, and Keira Troccoli captured first place, while Adelina Loza, Laura Svrcek, Olivia Brady, and Alyza Laufman followed with a third-place finish.

Forger kept the momentum going with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle. In the 200 individual medley, Knuth took first, while Savannah Jarrett finished fourth.

In the 50 freestyle, Troccoli raced to first place, followed by Laufman in fourth.

“It was also exciting to see several of our younger swimmers make great improvements in this event,” said Burlenski. “Olivia Telesco, Emmalyse Colon, Abigail Long, Maria Antunez, and Zabria Pelobello all dropped time, showing the hard work and progress they continue to make.”

The girls closed out the meet on a high note in the 400 freestyle relay. Laufman, Jarrett, Loza, and Troccoli took first place, while Olivia Brady, Paola Yunga, Gabriella Ferreira, and Macie Thompson finished third.

In the losing meet, the girls started with a strong performance in the 200 medley relay. Forger, Knuth, Furfaro, and Troccoli took first place and officially achieved the New York State qualifying time.

One of the biggest highlights of the meet came in the 500 freestyle. After coming so close earlier in the week, Troccoli finally achieved the NYS qualifying time with an outstanding first-place performance.
