Patterson Library staff and local leaders recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new development project at the library, made possible in part by $20,000 in state bullet aid secured with the help of Assemblyman Matt Slater in August.

Library Director Stephanie Harrison, Board President Donald Ferraro, Trustee Becky Cutrera, and Mid-Hudson Library System Trustees Kevin Finnegan and Carla Taylor joined library staff, elected officials, and other supporters to celebrate the exciting milestone May 16.

A New York State Aid for Library Construction Grant and additional state funding secured by Slater are the main resources supporting the renovation, along with existing library resources and community contributions – allowing the library to move forward without placing any extra financial burden on residents.

“People of all ages go to libraries and for so many different reasons besides just checking out a book,” said Slater. “I’m proud to support the Patterson Library as it begins this exciting new chapter, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on the community.”

The Patterson Library project will focus on revitalizing the adult library space to better serve patrons’ needs and create a more welcoming, functional environment for the entire community.

This renovation focuses on enhancing comfort, accessibility, and energy efficiency in the adult library. Planned upgrades include two cozy reading nooks, lower/more accessible shelving for the book collection, an improved HVAC system, energy-efficient lighting, acoustic ceiling tiles, new carpeting, and a fresh coat of paint .

“Patterson Library is excited to announce the start of construction on a series of improvements to our Adult Library, designed to enhance the comfort, accessibility and overall experience for our patrons,” said Harrison. “We are deeply grateful to Assemblyman Slater for helping to secure essential funding for this project.”

Patterson Town Supervisor Richard Williams also expressed his appreciation, saying, “When we invest in our libraries, we ensure they can continue investing in us.”

Construction began May 19, with completion anticipated by October.
