Haldane High School girls’ soccer team beat Pawling, 10-0, in a league game last week. Yes, you read that correctly. The Blue Devils put 10 on the board while hanging a goose egg on the Tigers.

Stella Gretina scored a hat trick for Haldane while teammates Mira Trimmer, Marcela Duarte, and Taya Robinson scored twice each. Eighth-grader Lucia McIlwain tallied her first varsity goal.

The game erased the memories of a 3-0 loss to Nanuet earlier in the week.

The victory over Pawling also salvaged a rough week for local girls’ soccer as Carmel, Brewster, Mahopac, and Putnam Valley all lost games.

Boys’ Soccer

It’s becoming clearer that the Mahopac High School boys’ soccer team has one of the best defenses in Section 1. The Wolf Pac had three games last week and three shutouts.

Mahopac beat Lakeland, Carmel, and Walter Panas by the three-game cumulative total of 9-0. In one of those games, Nick Portanova had two goals and three assists in a 6-0 win over Lakeland.

Lakeland 2, Brewster 2 – Ashwin Sookram scored both goals for the Bears. Brewster also lost a 5-1 decision to Peekskill and lost by the same score to Pelham.

Girls’ Volleyball

The Carmel High School girls’ volleyball team played the role of rude guest while visiting county rival Brewster. It was a sweep for the Rams over the Bears.

Scores were 25-16, 25-21, and 26-24.
