Members of the Carmel Police Department and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported stabbing at the U.S. Post Office in Carmel on Thursday, July 30.

At about 3 p.m., Putnam County 911 received a call reporting a disturbance at the location. Updates from the dispatch center indicated that an assault had occurred and that a victim had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived almost instantly to the assault in progress and deployed a Taser, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

The victim, who is an employee of the post office, was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It seems the suspect was known to the victim, and the stabbing was an isolated incident with no threat to the greater community.

Fair Street between Route 52 and Vink Drive was closed to traffic for about two hours to facilitate the investigation, which remains ongoing by Carmel police detectives. The suspect remained in custody with criminal charges pending, as of July 31.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact CPD at 845-628-1300.
