The brackets for the Section 1 high school sports tournament are starting to come together. First up is baseball, which got underway last week and continues this week.

Teams in five classes are vying for a championship and the right to go to the state tournament. The sectional finals in all classes will be held at SUNY Purchase.

Putnam Valley earned the top seed in Class B. The Tigers were the highest seed among all of the Putnam County high schools.

Class AAA – Roy C. Ketcham of Wappingers Falls was the number one seed.

Class AA – Mahopac had a brilliant year and was seeded number two. They were scheduled to play the winner of Nyack and Lakeland in a quarterfinal matchup. Brewster was seeded ninth and scheduled to visit number-eight Eastchester. The winner of that one gets to go to the top seed, Rye.

Carmel was seeded 12th in this region.

Class A – Tappan Zee was seeded first in this class.

Class B – As previously mentioned, Putnam Valley was first in this class and was scheduled to play number-eight Dobbs Ferry. The winner moves on to the semifinals.

Class C – This is the smallest of the class tournaments, with only four teams participating. Haldane was scheduled to play at number-one Tuckahoe.

Flag Football – This tournament was broken up into three class sizes. Scarsdale was the top overall seed in Class A.

In Class B, Mahopac, Brewster, and Carmel were seated third, fourth, and 11th, respectively. And in Class C, Putnam Valley was seeded fourth.

Neutral Lakeland High School is scheduled to host all three championship games.
